Where to buy cempedak cake in Singapore
Almost nobody bakes one. Here is why, and where to find ours.

People find us by searching for this, and they are usually surprised how short the list is. Singapore has hundreds of bakeries and an entire national obsession with durian, and yet cempedak — arguably the more approachable fruit — barely appears on a menu.
Why almost nobody bakes it
It is genuinely seasonal. Cempedak has a season, and within that season the fruit varies. Some weeks it is perfect. Some weeks it is not worth putting in a cake, and on those weeks we do not. A bakery that needs a fixed menu twelve months a year cannot build a product on that.
It is slow to prepare. The flesh has to be separated from the pods by hand, pod by pod. It is sticky, it is fiddly, and there is no machine that does it properly. For a large kitchen costing labour by the hour, that maths does not work. For a one-person kitchen where the person has already decided the cake is worth it, it does.
It is aromatic. Not durian-level, but assertive enough that it lingers in an oven and a shared kitchen will notice. Committing to it means committing the space.
What ours is
Fresh cempedak folded into a buttery crumble base — not a paste, not an essence, not a flavouring. It is the bake people order weekly and the one that sells out first when it is on. Slices start at S$6, and whole 8-inch cakes are available for a table.

How to get one
Order by 9pm for next-day collection in Tampines or islandwide delivery from S$11.90. Because it is seasonal, the product page and the order page are the honest source for whether it is available this week.

Cempedak for events

Where can I buy cempedak cake in Singapore?
Very few bakeries make one. We bake our Cempedak Crumble Cake in Tampines from S$6 a slice, with whole 8-inch cakes available, for next-day collection or islandwide delivery. Cempedak is seasonal, so check the order page for current availability.
Why is cempedak cake so hard to find?
Three reasons. The fruit is seasonal and its quality varies week to week. It has to be hand-separated from the pods, which is slow and messy work no machine does well. And it is aromatic enough that a lot of shared kitchens will not commit an oven to it.
Is cempedak the same as jackfruit?
No. They are related but distinct. Jackfruit is firmer, more fibrous and much milder. Cempedak is softer, sweeter and more fragrant, with a caramel note jackfruit does not have. There is a full comparison in our guide.
Does cempedak cake taste like durian?
No. Cempedak and durian are relatives, but the cake tastes of neither durian's pungency nor its richness. People who cannot face durian are usually fine with cempedak.
